Machine to Machine (M2M)
Machine to machine (M2M) communication includes industrial instrumentation, enabling a sensor or meter to communicate the data gathered (such as motion, vibration, position, temperature, inventory level, etc.) wirelessly or by wire to application software that is able to utilize or react to it. Wireless M2M usually applies cellular networks, GPRS/3G/LTE, for long distance communication while uses Wi-Fi/ZigBee/Bluetooth for small area coverage. Such communication was accomplished by having a remote network of machines relay information back to a central hub for analysis and control. Nowadays the wireless M2M technologies are widely used for point of sale (POS) terminals, smart grid, smart home, in vehicle telematics, remote monitoring, automated intelligence, and tracking applications.
